Weiner Does 5-Borough Tour, Proposes GPS for Sex Offenders
(The New York Civil Liberties Union has no statement on this yet; in the past other ACLU chapter spokespeople have expressed attitudes toward electronic sex offender monitoring that have been cautioning if not prohibitive.)
Weiner also did a citywide quasi-campaign tour on Sunday.
In a video at his Facebook site Weiner said that there is "a conversation we need to have in the city... and I'm going to be leading that conversation," and announced he would include in that conversation anyone who could spare $20.09 and attend his events: a "light brunch" in Riverdale, then an "afternoon snack on Woodhaven Boulevard ("Don't worry, all you Giants fans, the game will be up on the big screen"), then "coffee and cake" at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Marine Park in Brooklyn, then "Manhattan for cocktails" at Retreat and "beer and pretzels" in Staten Island.
Given Weiner's slight frame, that would seem to handle all his nutritional needs for the week. But we expect he'll burn the calories off in the days to come, as he promised, "I'm going to be on your street corners, I'm going to be at your PTA meetings, I'm going to be in your church basements, in your subway stations -- you're going to see a lot of me in 2009, just as you have in the past."
