2 Hit-and-Runs, 2 Dead, 2 Arrests

sbranch.jpgOn Friday a black Mercedes hopped the curb on Marcy Avenue in Bed-Stuy and hit Dillan Jackson, 4, and Dwayne Jackson, 16. The driver hopped out of the car and "cradled the younger boy in his arms before running off on foot," police told the Daily News. They found Samuel Branch later and charged him with leaving the scene and driving without a license. The elder Jackson was commended for coming between his younger brother and the car. He suffered a broken arm and chipped tooth; his brother got a broken leg and pelvis, but both are expected to recover.

Less fortunate were 16-year-old Robert Ogle and 20-year-old Alex Paul, fatally struck at Eliot Avenue and 80th Street in Middle Village, allegedly by 27-year-old Kenneth Guyear, who is said to have gotten drunk, stolen a car, and run them down. The New York Times went to Guyear's old address, where Guyear lived with a woman to whom he was engaged until losing his factory job; they also found an apartment into which he had moved recently, and left when he could not pay the rent.
