Jersey Denies Being Source of Maple Syrup Smell

maplesyrupleft.jpgIt's getting so we can't trust our own public officials: Gothamist reports that a spokesman for the city of North Bergen, whose Frutarom plant was fingered by Mayor Bloomberg as the source of Manhattan's mysterious maple syrup smell, claims "that the NJDEP has not concluded that Frutarom is the source of this smell in New York," and that "food experts" doubt such a small seed-processing plant could have emitted enough odor to be detected across the river.

Heightening the mystery, Indiana's KDKA today reported that the Indiana County Unemployment Call Center was evacuated because of a nauseating smell that employees said "resembles that of a dead animal. At other times, they say it resembles maple syrup." Is this the terrorist attack Dick Cheney warned us about?
