Kobe Scores 61 Against Local Team

knickssuck.jpgThe Knicks (21-26) began "Dream Week" with a 126-117 loss to the Lakers. It doesn't look too bad until you realize Kobe Bryant scored almost half Los Angeles' points. His 61-point performance, a new Garden record (supplanting Bernard King's 60 points in a 1984 game) was celebrated by the fans at MSG; in fact, Bryant was celebrated from Kobe's first trip to the free-throw line in the first quarter, when the Post reports the hometown crowd chanted "MVP." "It was like a road game for us," said Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni. "It felt great to get that reaction from the fans," Kobe told the Southern California Los Angeles Times. Longtime Knicks homer and opposition scourge Spike Lee applauded Bryant's "Roger Maris" to the Daily News. As Mets fans, for whom the options are 1.) cheering the home team, 2.) booing the opposition, and 3.) booing the home team, we find this appalling.
