Mark Green Running for Public Advocate
The Brooklyn-born Green first came to attention as a regular questioner on William F. Buckley's "Firing Line," and has since run for Congress, Senate, and Mayor unsuccessfully; in 2001 he was ready to accede to Mayor Giuliani's request to postpone the post-9/11 election, but Fernando Ferrer, who was challenging him for the Democratic nomination, wouldn't give in and the plan was scrapped. Green was edged by Bloomberg that year after running TV ads that accused Bloomberg of counseling an employee to have an abortion. (Ferrer got his own chance to lose the mayorality in 2005.)
