Philip José Farmer, 1918-2009
Somewhere, a naked and hairless 25-year-old man is waking up on the banks of an endless river, with a food bucket tied around his wrist and a small pile of clean towels next to him. And unlike the billions of others who preceded him, he alone will know where he is. Because he invented the place.Philip José Farmer's website reports that the 91-year-old author died peacefully in his sleep this morning. The name may not mean much to some who read this blog. But for those who enjoyed the Peoria man's many books, including the "Riverworld" series that he's most famous for, Farmer was one of speculative fiction's most original artists.
