Republican Gregg Pre-Withdraws from Commerce Job

Categories: Featured, Politics
juddgregg.jpgSenator Judd Gregg, Obama's bipartisan-outreach nominee for Secretary of Commerce, has backed out. "I have found that on issues such as the stimulus package and the Census there are irresolvable conflicts for me," his statement reads, though Gregg adds "there will be many issues and initiatives where I can and will work to assure the success of the President's proposals." Gregg was supposed to replace Bill Richardson, who withdrew earlier to spend more time with his federal investigators.

He also says it has nothing to do with vetting, which may be true, as Gregg did not say he needed to spend more time with his family, which is traditional in such cases. Maybe he was pissed about Commerce losing control of the Census. Or maybe someone else was pissed about it. It could be that the Republican Party doesn't want any more signs of bipartisanship, even cosmetic ones, preferring everyone follow Rush Limbaugh into the pit of hell together. Already their web operatives are blaming it on Obama. Maybe now the President will finally get the message that you just can't reason with these people.
