A-Rod Will Have Surgery, Miss 6-7 Weeks of Season. UPDATE: Yanks Say: No Surgery

chinmusic.jpgWe see Newsday is thinking the same way we are, and asks an expert if the cyst on A-Rod's hip has to do with his steroid abuse back in his Mariners days. Not likely, says Gary Wadler, "an internist and member of the World Anti-Doping Agency." The cyst was discovered after Rodriguez experienced some tightness in his hip while training for his Dominican Republic team appearance in the World Baseball Classic. Now A-Rod's brother (not to be confused with his cousin) announces that the cyst requires surgery, which A-Rod will have on Monday, taking him out of not only the Classic, but all playing for ten weeks, meaning he'll miss roughly the first month and a half of the Yankees' season. Here's hoping that while in the hospital he doesn't develop a taste for painkillers.

Update: the Yankees say no surgery, A-Rod will play from day one. See here.
