Budget Battle: Feets in the Streets Today

rallyflyer.jpgOrganizers are predicting the year's biggest demonstration so far late this afternoon outside City Hall.

The targets are service cuts being demanded by both Mayor Bloomberg and Governor Paterson in their respective budgets. Big turnout is expected from the teachers union, SEIU locals 32BJ and 1199, District Council 37, and a host of community and nonprofit organizations.

The battle cry is "Fair Share Reform"  -- the wildly radical idea that the state should reimpose the same surtax on high wage earners that was passed after the World Trade Center attack to help restart the economy and prevent slash and burn cuts.

Look for stemwinders from UFT leader Randi Weingarten and many others. Start time is 4 P.M.
