Living Theatre Lives On
The sheriff's sale scheduled for last Friday was the Living Theatre's nearest brush with extinction in its twelve-year history, according to director Julian Beck. The sum of $10,000 in back rent was demanded by the theatre's landlord, Wyckoff-Bent Corporation, but the threatened auction of assets was forestalled by payment last Thursday of $8300 of the debt. The remaining $1700 must be paid by next Wednesday, November 24, in order for the theatre to renew its lease for another five years. Novelist Harold Humes heads the group seeking contributions, which are tax-deductible, for the emergency.
