Hats In The Ring: Vance for D.A., Liu for Comptroller

cyvance.jpgA couple of candidates for local office are stepping up this week: Cyrus Vance Jr. -- aka Cy Vance -- is announcing for Manhattan D.A. at City Hall as we write. He is expected to face Dan Castleman and Lesley Crocker Snyder, who starts the battle early by telling the Post, "While I was in New York for my entire career in the New York City justice system, he spent 20 years practicing law in Seattle," though Vance did serve briefly in the Manhattan D.A.'s office before moving west, where he practiced and taught law and served as a Special Assistant Attorney General before returning to New York in 2004.

Councilmember John Liu announced for city comptroller yesterday. Liu was earlier expected to run for public advocate, but Mark Green's recent entry to that race may have spooked him. Liu has been well-funded in his council runs, and is best known in recent years for his chairmanship of the council's transportation committee, and for leading a protest against CW11 for reporting mouse bits in Chinese food, where he screamed obscenities at a reporter. He'll face councilmembers Melinda Katz, David Weprin, and David Yassky.
