Jersey House Floats Up the Hudson to Glen Cove

A house formerly of Jersey's Long Beach Island floated up the East River to its new home in Glen Cove today. The "architecturally-significant" Lieb House, designed by Robert Venturi and Denise Scott Brown and ornamenting the 30th Street oceanfront since the late 60s, was threatened with demolition by the property's new owners, but the owners of another Venturi home decided they wanted a matched set and were willing to pay hundreds of thousands to relocate the shedlike structure with its "big round window that looks like a 1930s radio loud-speaker". The house was hauled first to Barnegat Light in January, then onto a barge. It set sail yesterday, stopping overnight in Staten Island before finishing its journey today. The Staten Island Advance recorded part of the trip in the above video.
