NYC Places #1, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 9 in America's Worst Intersections

nytraffic.com.jpgForbes has released a list of the nation's 100 worst traffic intersections, and boosters be pleased to learn that New York crossroads occupy six of the top ten spots, including the #1 position. Top honors go to Exit 4B, which connects the Cross Bronx Expressway to the Bronx River Parkway, and where, the accompanying story tells us, drivers "encounter a stretch of road that is congested an average of 94 hours every week." All the contenders involve a highway, parkway or bridge entrance -- the Van Wyck Expressway, Harlem River Drive, and George Washington Bridge figure prominently among New York's 21 listings -- probably because the list was compiled by tracking company Inrix from data recorded by commercial vehicles and state transportation departments. Inrix actually found that highway congestion overall dropped by about 30 percent from 2007 to 2008, thanks to gas price spikes and recession, but for drivers forced to navigate these still-intractable bottlenecks, that will come as cold comfort.
