The state senate elections committee just approved a
bill requiring
any "abolition or modification of term limits" to be approved by referenda. No Republicans on the committee cooperated, causing senator Kevin Parker to declare they are "in the pocket" of Mayor Bloomberg, whose recent overturn of term limits is imperiled by the bill. The assembly's election law committee is
already on board, but the chances of getting the thing passed into law relies on senate Republicans, who are
unlikely to go along. Still, it's a nice gesture.
