Cuomo, Thompson Heating Up Pension Fund Investigations

thompsonleftnew.jpg
Hmm. Now that state comptroller DiNapoli's banning placement agents from doing business with the state pension fund-- like what Ray Harding was pretending to do when attorney general Cuomo nabbed him -- city comptroller William Thompson (pictured) is calling for a similar ban here. (He can't just cut them off like DiNapoli did; apparently he has to deal with the trustees.) And Andrew Cuomo says that, at the request of Thompson, he's going to see if placement agents and other such like are pilfering the city's pension fund as well.

Thompson is himself looking at Quadrangle Group, an investigation that might touch Obama's car czar Steve Rattner, who had a deal with Quadrangle and Hank Morris. The Carlyle Group, whom Cuomo has been investigating for its role in the state pension follies, has also agreed to end its use of placement agents in connection with such funds. Maybe this scandal with actually lead to some fundamental changes. Whoops, did we just say that? Jinx!
