Deputy Mayor Decries Cop Pensions as "Obsolete" and "Unaffordable"

edskyler.jpgThe Mayor stepped up his drive to take back from uniformed city employees -- including cops -- of their gold-plated pensions via his deputy, Ed Skyler, last seen here chasing down a mugger. Skyler told the Citizens' Budget Commission that the current pensions are "not only obsolete but unaffordable," and noted ominously that "the private companies that have them, such as GM, are facing bankruptcy and bailouts. The city will be in the same position if we don't get these costs under control." This kind of talk has spread around the state, though the current Albany budget battle seems not to reflect those concerns.
