Pols, Peeps Protest Prince St. Post Office Closing Threat

princestreetrallynew.jpg

Well, it's not a tea party, but pretty good for a local event: This morning about 150 citizens protested at the crappy Prince Street Post Office to protest its possible closing. The P.O. used to be where the Apple Store is now, but when the Macs moved in the branch got squeezed into a little nook around the corner. (It's not the only time the Apple Store has pissed off the Alliance.) The place is worse than packed, especially at tax time, and now the Feds have been talking about closing it, along with Post Offices at 180th Street and Columbus Circle. The SoHo Alliance sent out emails and got councilmembers Tony Avella and Alan Gerson, council candidates Pete Gleason and Margaret Chin, state senator Daniel Squadron and other pols to come down to Prince Street and make a fuss. "The nearest post office is almost half a mile away," the Alliance's Sean Sweeney told us. "People are angry!"
