Oh yeah, Dick Cheney gave a speech today too. In an address to the rightwing American Enterprise institute, he referred to himself as "a private citizen -- a career in politics behind me, no elections to win or lose, and no favor to seek," and then attacked Obama, the New York Times, "the Left," and other enemies. He said "9/11" 23 times, and lavishly described it ("A few moments later I found myself in a fortified White House command post somewhere down below"). He expressed anger that the Times blew the whistle on his Terrorist Surveillance Program. He said, "I was and remain a strong proponent of our enhanced interrogation program," and claimed it "prevented the violent death of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of innocent people." He also said his enemies were trying to smear him and his friends in the CIA with Abu Ghraib.

Cheney professed outrage that "US taxpayer dollars will be used to support" the relocation of detainees proposed by Obama, as if their detention had previously been funded by a lottery or collection taken up at Bohemian Grove. He also suggested that the detainees are supervillains who will escape from our puny maximum security prisons like Magneto, and characterized Obama's claim that enhanced interrogations have become a "recruitment tool" for terrorists as "another version of that same old refrain from the Left, 'We brought it on ourselves.'"

Afterward the disgraced former Vice President retired to his hyperbaric chamber to suck the blood out of a living infant. Photo (cc) World Economic Forum.
