The Voice handed out its Eighth Annual "Obie" Awards in a somewhat chaotic but spirited ceremony on Saturday afternoon at the Village Gate. Invited theatre people and well-wishers descended on the cavernous rathskeller in unprecedented numbers to watch Uta Hagen distribute this year's fifteen parchment symbols of achievement...

Peering out into the dim, smoke-filled room, packed to the walls with standing late-comers, in her best Bette Davis voice she echoed the opening of "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?", in which she is currently starring on Broadway: "What a dump!" When the applause dies down, she began the presentations...
