If you've read this Village Voice feature article, you know that there has been more than one "Craigslist Killer," and that Craigslist founder, Craig Newmark, spoke at a May 3rd memorial concert organized by the family of Katherine Olson, a 24-year-old murdered after responding to a nanny ad placed on his site.

We asked Newmark -- who hasn't been talking to the media much lately -- how he thought his speech went. Via e-mail, he responded:

"The whole situation is gut-wrenching, and I think that showed in my speech. I wanted people to know how much my heart went out to the Olson family on the loss of their beautiful daughter and to express my concerns to the audience that people need to exercise personal safety precautions when meeting anyone for the first time."

Newmark had lunch with Olson's family, whom he said made him feel like "a member of their extended family" as they told him "more about Katherine and how we shared an interest in international relations."

Newmark initiated contact with the Olson family in the wake of Katherine Olson's death, fedexing a handwritten note to the family expressing his condolences. The internet innovator says he hasn't had any contact with the family of Julissa Brisman, the latest victim of the latest "Craigslist Killer." Photo (cc) edrugsearch.com.
