Endorsement Fever! Aborn, Others Clean Up

abornright.jpgThe Times says today that Manhattan D.A. candidate Richard Aborn "Aims to Raise His Profile" in that race, and that he does so mainly via endorsements. We'll say -- his office alerts us to each one (other candidates are also encouraged to do so), and he's had plenty, most recently those of four Democratic clubs and the powerful Working Families Party, which laid out its full roster yesterday. The list contains no shockers, though we note with interest that it includes some intra-Democratic challengers, such as Danny Dromm, running for the Queens city council seat held by Party candidate Helen Sears; labor fave Maritza DaVilla against councilmember Diana Reyna, etc. WFP also backed Democratic challengers to the city's few Republican office-holders, including Staten Island Borough President candidate John Luisi, who also has the backing of the Independence Party, favored against Republican incumbent James Molinaro, who was recently endorsed by former mayor Ed Koch; Frank Gulluscio against Queens city councilman Eric Ulrich; and longtime Staten Island candidate Debi Rose against recent special election winner Kenneth Mitchell.

In other apparent anomalies, the Lenox Hill Democratic Club supports Brooklyn's Bill De Blasio for public advocate over local boy Mark Green. Also, councilmember Alan Gerson has had some tough sledding, barely keeping the endorsement of his home club, the Village Reform Democratic Club, on two ballots, and losing that of the Coalition for a District Alternative to Margaret Chin.

Meanwhile Mayor Bloomberg continues to rack up endorsements, including that of congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy. So does the Senator McCarthy keeps threatening to run against, Kirsten Gillibrand, even though Gillibrand isn't running till 2010; former state comptroller and gubernatorial candidate Carl McCall and Manhattan assemblywoman Deborah Glick recently got on board. Obama really got the word out on that one.
