Gay Marriage Wins in Maine; D.C. Fights to Recognize It

mainepink.jpg
Maine's got gay marriage. Governor John Baldacci signed a marriage equality bill that passed the state legislature this morning.

New England is kicking New York's ass. Massachusetts got the ball rolling. New Hampshire's lawmakers have passed a gay marriage law that waits on the governor. Vermont overrode their governor's veto to get their bill passed, and Connecticut's state supreme court struck down a ban. Get on the ball, Rhode Island!

Adding to the general gayness, the D.C. council voted to acknowledge same-sex marriages performed in other states. But it has to go to Congress, which still owns the tiny federal duchy, and rightwing congressmen pledge to fight it, as has former mayor/crackhead Marion Barry.
