Eric Naposki was a star University of Connecticut linebacker who went on to play for the New England Patriots in the 1980s, then the WLAF's Barcelona Dragons in the 1990s. Around the time he got too old to play, he apparently hooked up with Nanette Ann Johnston, who had been seeing a well-off medical equipment developer, William Francis McLaughlin. In 1994 someone shot McLaughlin in his Balboa Island home. Later Johnston was caught stealing funds from his bank account, and served a year in jail for it. Police liked Johnston, later known as Nanette Packard McNeal, for the murder, too, but only this week felt they had enough evidence to arrest her -- and her alleged accomplice and shooter, Eric Naposki. They were arrested yesterday and are scheduled to arraigned tomorrow.
