Broadway Pedestrian Mall Opens at Herald & Times Square

tsquaremall1.jpg

Yesterday evening, Broadway became a pedestrian mall from 33rd to 35th Streets and from 42nd to 47th Streets. On Sunday folks, mostly tourists, came out to enjoy it. The Times Square Alliance thoughtfully put out hundreds of lawn chairs so we could take our ease and watch On The Town on a giant electronic billboard, or TSA's "best of the buskers" street-talent picks, or the Memorial Day parade of passers-by. We missed the Virgil's ribs give-away, but Hebrew National was still giving out free hot dogs for its Ultimate Hot Dog Showdown. We'll get used to it soon enough, but for now it's something to see the big street turned into a Great White Walkway. More photos after the jump.
