A Yemeni airliner with 142 passengers and 11 crew crashed into the Indian Ocean near its destination, the island nation of Comoros, early this morning. Rescuers have retrieved alive a 5-year-old boy from the site, but so far none of the others have been saved, though some bodies have been recovered. The flight had originated from Paris, stopped at Marseille, changed aircraft at the Yemeni capital of Sana, and was on its way to Comoros' main island when it encountered heavy winds and went down 12 miles from shore. French transportation officials are already making statements of concern about the condition of the aircraft, an Airbus A310-300. The Yemenia airline "was due to be interviewed shortly by the European Union's safety committee" in regard to the condition of its craft, the French Transport Minister said.
