Coup in Review: Espada Won't Power-Share; Paterson Wants Judge to Run Senate

coupleft.jpgThe guys in Albany are pretending to listen at one another again. The Governor has called his special state senate session for tomorrow and invites chief judge of the Court of Appeals, Jonathan Lippman to preside. Boss Pedro Espada opposes this plan, and any plan that removes him even temporarily from the senate presidency he won in the coup of June 8. Some senate Democrats would let Espada be president part-time on a power-sharing basis, but Espada says, "No one would consider having musical chairs in any Fortune 500 company, having a different CEO every day. It's a ridiculous situation." It's nice to see him standing up for the dignity of the senate.

Everyone wants to get out of tomorrow's special session, but Paterson is holding firm.
