Famed Guitar Store Rudy's Goes Soho; Music Row Going Down?

Now that Manny's has departed Music Row, leaving music-store primacy on West 48th Street to megadealer Sam Ash, we must expect other stores on the block to do some shifting. Rudy's Music Stop, purveyors of musical equipment to both stars and schnooks for over 30 years, is heading to Soho, says Crain's New York Business. Rudy Pensa's new shop will be at 461 Broome Street, between Greene and Mercer Streets. This is to be their second location, but at the relatively cheap $100 a square foot Rudy's is paying for the new space, and with so many potential clients living downtown and Music Row itself under threat, we wouldn't be surprised to see them switch flagships when it all goes down. Of course, old farts (like us) will tell you 48th Street hasn't been the same since We Buy Guitars closed...
