Manhattan D.A. Robert Morgenthau has called a 11:45 press conference to announce an indictment on rape and sexual assault charges for song writer Joseph Brooks, whose cotton-candy confection, "You Light Up My Life," went to the top of the charts for Debbie Boone and won an Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1978.

Morgenthau's press advisory says that Brooks' personal assistant is also being charged with criminal facilitation.

The Daily News reported in January that Brooks was under investigation in five separate sexual assaults after allegedly using internet postings to lure women from the West Coast to his East Side apartment with promises of parts in movies. Victims claimed that Brooks spiked their drinks with knock-out drops.

Update: Brooks has turned himself in.
