New York Hotel Rates Fall 26%; Steepest Drop in U.S.

• Yeah, its bad that rates are falling for the economy, but for me it's great :) Last time I was in New York I used Easy Travel to book me a hotel at HALF the usual price! They are angels. Lets hope that this recession will give me more perks like this! At least one good thing about it...

• New York isn't actually worth it anymore. More cleansing destruction of the worship of wealth is needed, keep it coming.

• Just incredible! I remember hotel rooms going for less than $75 back in the 1970s and early 1980s--and those were some scuzzy hotels, but still! And $1350 for a studio? That's more than my monthly mortgage, oy vey!

• Fiiinally. I'm 27 and only visited NYC for the first time last Thanksgiving - the prices were always too high for my family to afford. But after returning from my trip last fall, I had the very real realization that I may not be able back to NY for another very long time... Just based on my own travel researching online, it's the accommodation that always rips the most out of your wallet. Flights are getting cheaper, there's always the subway, but a hotel room in NYC? They were always what I call 'mortgage' prices: so expensive that you'd think I was going to <i>live</i> there... This news is depressing, of course, for business, but for the un-frequent traveler, it's wonderful. P.S. I've also never been to Chicago or Florida, but those are other places. Just an indication of how much I want and <i>need</i> to travel.
