Yanks Take Weekend Series from Mets, 2-1

Categories: Baseball, Featured
piazzaclemens.jpgThe Empire State Building will glow Yankee blue and white tonight as the Bombers beat the Mets 15-0 yesterday to take the three-game weekend series, 2 games to 1. The Yankees now have a 39-30 edge on the Mets since the start of interleague play in 1997 (not counting the regrettable 2000 World Series.) The Mets lost the first on a painful two-run error by second baseman Luis Castillo, and won the second game before their ace Johan Santana was unaccountably blown out on Sunday. Santana says he's okay but The Kranepool Society begs to differ: "Santana can claim he is fit to fight all he wants but why do I have a feeling he might accompany Gary Sheffield to New York Hospital for a special 2 for 1 on MRI's?" Pinstripe Alley cheerfully tells us that Sunday was "the first time since Sept. 25th, 1977 that the Yankees have won a game by that many runs."

Elsewhere in the sports world, the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Orlando Magic at some other game.
