$85 Million in Albany Member Items Disbursed for Parrot Adoption, Self-Esteem, Etc.
The $85 million feedbag of discretionary items for senators' constituents includes $2 million for Pedro Espada, recently promoted for his Albany Coup services to majority leader. Most of that went to the Bronx Chamber of Commerce.
Rooting around the doc, you'll find a lot of churches, seniors programs, fire companies, libraries etc. among the recipients. You can also find The "Me" Nobody Knows inc. Youth Arts Enrichment Program, a 501 (C) (3) non-profit whose "sole purpose" is to "tap into a child's natural talents and abilities and utilize them in a way that will positively enhance their lives," says its cached home page says -- the actual site is down.
Other recipients include the Astor Little League in the Bronx ($15,000, via Jeff Klein), Xaverian Catholic High School in Brooklyn ($20,000, Martin Golden), The Out of the Box Theater Company in Manhattan ($2,000, Tom Duane), the Feathered Friends Parrot Adoption Services, Inc. in Maspeth ($1,000, Joseph Addabbo), the Italic Institute of America ("Guardian of the Italian Heritage") in Staten Island (Andrew Lanza, $2,500), etc.
There's nothing abnormal about any of this, but it's interesting to see where the -- excuse us, your -- money goes.
