Board of Ed to Albany: Please Kill Me

joelklein.jpgThe new dummy Board of Ed, set up by city officials to comply with the old school charter that went back into effect because Albany failed to restore mayoral control, got down to the business of making Dennis Walcott its "president," putting Joel Klein back in charge, and formally asking Albany to put it out of existence by restoring mayoral control. It is increasingly hard to see why we objected to the Soviet Union. No one is sure how long it will be before Albany gets its act together and shoves through the schools bill -- not whether it will be the bill Bloomberg wants, or Democratic leader John Sampson's own, weaker version. But however long they serve, are they going to accept the $20,000 and $15,000 salaries to which the law entitles them?
