Petition Probs: Jackson Back On, Gerson Still Off

Categories: Featured, Politics
alangerson.jpgEarlier today public advocate contender Bill de Blasio got the Board of Elections to overlook his misnumbered petition volumes and clear him for the Democratic primary ballot. Later in the day, we learn from Liz Benjamin, Councilmember Robert Jackson got a similar dispensation, but councilmember Alan Gerson was not so lucky. The BOE found his alteration of his own address on a cover sheet reason enough to throw out his ballots. Gerson of course threatens legal action to get reinstated.

Gerson, a councilmember since 2002, is being challenged for the nomination by perennial candidate Margaret Chin, former cop and fireman Pete Gleason, Jersey expatriate Arthur Gregory, and youngster PJ Kim. The first two are best positioned to gain if Gerson can't climb back on -- Gleason has the Downtown Independent Democrats' endorsement, and Chin is endorsed by the Coalition for a District Alternative and knows everybody.
