Billy Wagner Traded to Red Sox

The Mets have traded closer Billy Wagner to the Red Sox for two players to be named later. Wagner was injured last season and his arm found to be in very bad shape; he had Tommy John surgery and only returned recently to active duty. He has pitched well, as if that makes any difference with this team. But the Mets have other needs, and Wagner was willing to be traded, but only on his terms; it's not immediately clear that he got them. It is suggested that the Sox want to lose their current ace closer Jonathan Papelbon and hang onto Wagner.

Update: Oh shit: Johan Santana is out for the season.

Update 2: In comments, a nice analysis by "Louie the Lip" Straccioni. If you're not sure what he means about Wagner being a "hard-nosed character," see here.
