The Chinatown buses remain a cheap and popular way
to get to and from nearby cities, despite occasional complaints
about the quality of the service
. Well, you get what you pay for -- and so does everyone else, as the buses and their long lines clog traffic. Noting this trend and perhaps an opportunity for ticket income, the city has engaged in what amNY
describes as a "towing spree" of Chinatown buses
. This month NYPD took away 11 buses and issued 63 related summonses. "It's way overdue," says the local Community Board district manager. amNY
previously reported that one such bus line, New Century Travel, had racked up $136,000 in traffic fines
on 1,245 tickets, most of them unpaid.
