Parental Controls For Cars Point to Our Totalitarian Future

breathlyzer.jpg
Just keeping tabs on our evolving police state: WCBS reports on some car technologies that car companies are offering "to help parents control the way their teenagers drive -- and, as CBS' Cindy Hsu shows us, parents don't even have to be in the car." After some palaver about what screw-ups kids are, Hsu shows us new GPS software with which parents can virtually tail their children; built-in alcohol detectors, and Ford's "MyKey," which enables parents to remote-control the speed and radio volume of the vehicle.

Teenagers deserve whatever they get, but how long do you think these devices will be restricted to the authority of parents? In-car breathalyzers are already used on DUI offenders -- like Jim Leyritz, who got one on his car after he drunk-drove over that girl. But since none of us are supposed to drive drunk, or even drive badly, we're sure the nanny-state do gooders are already plotting to made these features mandatory for all vehicles, and to put the controls in the care of the fascist Department of Transportation.

It's the thin end of the wedge, parents -- don't play into their hands!
