A longtime worker at the famed Essex House hotel in midtown has been arrested for the murder Saturday morning of an investment banker in her condo, the police say. Police found Andree Bejjani, 44, in her apartment with a stab wound to her neck. She was declared dead at the scene.

Derrick Praileau, 29, a housekeeping manager at the hotel, was charged with second degree murder, and ordered held without bail. The Daily News says he entered Bejjani's apartment Saturday morning and tried to rape her before stabbing and strangling her when she tried to fight him off.

Praileau, who had worked at the hotel since he was 17 and is married with two kids, allegedly left Bejjani on the floor and then returned to try to clean up the crime scene. The New York Post reports that he was drunk when he arrived at work, and used an electronic card key to enter the victim's apartment. "I just lost it," he told cops, according to the Post.

Bejjani, born in Lebanon founded Royal Investments LLC, the Daily News reports. She was hired in 2008 as a vice president of the Carlton Group. She also worked as a volunteer for the Obama campaign.
