Whoops: Hofstra Rape Accuser Takes It Back
The 18-year-old Hoftsra student who said she was raped by five men on Sunday is taking it back, and the four men who were arrested on that charge have been set free. The young woman admits that the sex was consensual, and the Nassau County D.A. who was pursuing the case, Kathleen Rice, has turned her attention to charges of false criminal accusation against the complainant. "I respect women. I would never disrespect women, so being accused of that hurt me and my brother, you know?" says freed suspect Stalin Felipe. "I'm just happy that everything is finally out in the open and we get to go home."
On the internet, outrage over the original story has turned to outrage over the new one.
Update: Hofstra has lifted the suspension it had placed on the one accused man who attends the school, and suspended the accuser. A lawyer for one of the former suspects says the sexual encounter was recorded by a cell phone camera, which footage should be on the internet any minute now.
