Yelling Congressman Joe Wilson Raises Money for Opponent

robmiller.jpg

Democrat Rob Miller is running in 2010 against incumbent Republican Joe Wilson for a Congressional seat in South Carolina. Miller lost to Wilson 54 percent to 46 percent in the 2008 race, which was the tightest the GOP-friendly district had seen in 20 years. You may recall Wilson is the guy who yelled "LIE!" at President Obama during the President's health care speech last night. Turns out Wilson's action has had an effect on fundraising. After the incident, Miller's ActBlue page, which had theretofore scraped up a little over five grand for his candidacy, started a "Defeating the man who yelled 'liar' at Obama: Goodbye Rep Joe Wilson" thread encouraged by readers of Daily Kos. Result: $38,659 in new contributions as of early this morning. So it's true -- national TV exposure does help in local races.
