An off-duty detective, Kevin Spellman, has been
arrested after hitting an old woman with his car and killing her at West 232nd Street and Kingsbridge Avenue in The Bronx early this morning. If this seems familiar, it's because we have recently had a few similar stories: that of Officer Andrew Kelly, who
struck and killed a minister's daughter last month, and Sergeant Jim Spiekerman, who was charged last week with
running into an old man after six hours in a bar in June. Spellman, like Kelly and Spiekerman, refused a breathalyzer test at the scene. He is in police custody.
