Andrew Cuomo says that new non-profit health care database for New Yorkers will be up and running soon
. Back in January Cuomo muscled health insurance companies
to pony up millions to make good for the Ingenix scandal
-- in which the UnitedHealth Group-run info company was found to be providing less-than-helpful out-of-network advisement to its users. The new database, called FAIR Health
and run by Syracuse University and others, will give health care consumers a better accounting of their options, says Cuomo.
If you were worried that this Big Gummint intrusiveness would harm the providers involved, don't be: UnitedHealth, Aetna, WellPoint, et alia are doing just fine.
