Jockbeat: A-Rod Edging Past Mr. October
"You want a comparison?" writes Mike Lupica in today's Daily News about Alex Rodriguez's 2009 postseason. "All of a sudden he is the Yankee version of Ryan Howard."![]()
Wrong comparison, Mike. What Alex Rodriguez has been in the postseason, from the very beginning, is Reggie Jackson. Here are their numbers after 46 postseason games.
Reggie: hits 49, at-bats 164, homers 12, rbi 30, runs 27, ba .299, on-base .376, slugging .560
A-Rod: hits 52, at-bats 174, homers 12, rbi 28, runs 30, ba .299, on-base .388, slugging .563
Looks like a horse race to us, with a slight lead for A-Rod going into tonight's potential clincher against the Angels. If Rodriguez pulls ahead, don't be surprised to see Reggie come put of retirement and DH next year.
