We hope we have made it clear that just because we're always warning you about the animal menace to New York
, that doesn't mean we condone attacks on defenseless members of alternate species. We strongly denounce the crime of which Miguel Garo is accused: mutilating a guinea fowl
. Garo is alleged to have become enraged at his estranged wife, and somehow got ahold of her guinea fowl, which he used to beat on the door of her Madison Street apartment downtown. When he was through he left it "hanging upside down on the doorknob." The bird had to be put down, and Garo was arrested Sunday for criminal contempt, stalking and torturing animals.
Guinea fowls have been seen in these parts before, are apparently legal to sell in local live markets, and make good eating.
