What a lousy year for the Mets -- and the ex-Mets. First came the protracted woes of former car-wash king and '86 World Series hero Lenny Dykstra, who went
bankrupt and
had to sell his Series ring. Then Jerry Koosman, '69 hero,
went away for tax evasion. Now
Ron Darling is revealed to owe $544,197 in state and federal taxes; California and the IRS have liens against him, and New York has issued a tax warrant. And he's one of the
educated ex-Mets!
We'd say the upside is that our current Mets stars will try not to get traded until this curse is lifted, but active Mets are cursed too. The obvious solution: rename Citi Field and hire an exorcist.
