Times: Hippie Roommates Now Called "Collectivists"

The Times profiles "urban collectivists" -- that is, cute young people who want to live with several other cute young people with whom they can go to protests, eat sprouts, and engage in "active listening." Not many of them can afford/stand such an arrangement in the city, but a few have, taking nice homes in Bedford-Stuyvesant and Lefferts Gardens. The Bed-Stuy commune is called House of Tiny Egos, and they sponsor kimchi fermentation workshops; the other is brand new, its members selected by a rigorous process that screened out the agist, classist, ableist, etc, by means which the article unfortunately doesn't describe -- maybe they used trained ableist profilers and such like. After some fretful days ("early last week, they still had no firm prospects and, more important, no house") they finally found an Oberlin grad, a horticulturalist, and a lactation-consultant-in-training to round out their tribe. It'll be like Friends, only socially conscious and with live foods. Or like college.
