Zero-Alcohol Test Cop Still Charged with DWI, Manslaughter

copcarright.jpgAndrew Kelly, the cop who struck and killed a woman with his car as she was leaving a wedding three weeks ago -- and whose subsequent zero-alcohol blood test, conducted seven hours after the accident, seemed to conflict with the state in which he was apprehended -- was indicted by a grand jury and will stand trial for second-degree vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated. Kelly, off-duty when he hit Vionique Valnord, 33, was riding with cops and, of course, arrested and escorted by cops in the aftermath of the accident, leading those of a suspicious turn of mind to believe his comrades might have been trying to help him beat the rap.

At one point Kelly's lawyer was putting around the story that the lawman used his rescue skills to bring Valnord back to life, briefly, before she succumbed to the injuries he had caused.

He faces up to seven years in prison if convicted.
