5 Arrested, Including Alleged Gunman, in Bronx Schoolgirl Shooting

Five arrests have been made in the case of Vada Vasquez, the 15-year-old who was shot in the head as she walked home from Bronx Latin School on Monday and remains in a coma. The suspected shooter is Carvette Gentile, 16. Other participants in the gunplay that led to Vasquez being struck were also arrested: Rohan Francis, 18, Cleve Smith, 20, Clivie Smith, 19 and Dwayne Taylor, 23.

Gentile was alleged aiming for one Tyrone Creighton, 19, who was in fact struck in the back; he is in stable condition. The casus belli, police say, was a beatdown administered to Gentile by someone related to Creighton at Rikers, where both were incarcerated. Vasquez was collateral damage.
