Computer Glitch Brings Widespread Flight Delays, Cancellations This A.M. (Update: Fixed!)

usairways.jpgBoy, we hope you're not flying this morning: the FAA says it's having trouble with its computers, which will delay flights across the nation. The glitch, noticed around 6 a.m., has to do with flight schedules, which the agency's workers are at present doing by hand. The problem was originally detected in Atlanta and technically affects only East Coast airports but, owing to the domino effect of airline scheduling and an understandable abundance of caution, things should be hairy awhile everywhere; though as of 7:30 this morning New Orleans seemed not to have been affected, AirTran has already canceled 22 flights.

Update: FAA says they have the problem fixed, but there may be residual delays.
