Cultured, Lazy? Brooklyn Art Hops will Drive You to Out-Of-The-Way Galleries

Every so often someone tells us about an incredibly cool thing in some distant neighborhood, and when we weigh the benefits of seeing the cool thing against getting a good night's sleep or even going to work, the cool thing usually suffers. But here's a loophole: Brooklyn's smART Brooklyn Gallery Hop has arranged to drive people to multiple art galleries in deepest Brooklyn this weekend. Buses "staffed with art docents" will leave hub locations every hour from 1 to 5 p.m. On Saturday the "Blue Loop" drops you at or near 27 galleries in Williamsburg, Greenpoint, and Bushwick galleries; the Red goes to Bed-Stuy, Fort Greene, and Clinton Hill. On Sunday the Gold hits Dumbo, Brooklyn Heights, and Red Hook; and the Green Lopp takes you to Boerum Hill, Gowanus, and Park Slope. If you're really ambitious, a Sunday four-hour "Tour of Four" will take you "off the beaten path" to Gallery 364 in Bay Ridge, the Chasidic Art Institute and FiveMyles in Crown Heights, and Tabla Rasa in Sunset Park. Impress your art nerd friends! Registration is required: call 718-802-3530 or email smart@visitbrooklyn.org.
