Sharpton Tweets in Protest as Ex-Wife, Daughter are Detained by Cops

sharptonleft.jpgAl Sharpton has gotten more selective in recent years about the causes he will endorse, but he could hardly have been expected to remain silent when his ex-wife and oldest daughter were arrested and issued disorderly conduct tickets after allegedly running a red light at 110th Street and Eighth Avenue. He is protesting on Twitter, albeit gently:

"I am getting calls that NY papers are reporting that [ex-wife] Kathy [Jordan] and [daughter] Dominique... Were cuffed and then released after challenging police on a traffic incident. Even though Kathy and I are not together, she remains my best"...

Later: "Told to stay out of it. Dominique is grown and certainly can handle herself. Kathy showed the concern any mother would show. I cannot imagin... How two unarmed women with no record, could be taken in cuffs from a traffic dispute with NO personal or property damage involved. No drugs... Or drinking at all. Well this is what we deal with everyday. We will never accept unfairness."

Sharpton's lawyer says the Reverend will "aggressively support his daughter and her mother, despite their announced change of marital status in 2003."

Reverend Al has also been attending to non-family matters, appearing in support of Mark Winston Griffith, who is running on the WFP line against longtime Democratic councilmember Al Vann in Brooklyn.
